MEETINGS:

Attend meetings of the Common Council, Finance, License & Personnel Committees, and Board of Review as well as other meetings as required.  Provide an accurate recording of the proceedings. 

RECORDS:

Serve as the official custodian of all City records, public documents, corporate seal of the City; certify, attest, and record legal documents including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds as required; enter every enacted ordinance and resolution into the permanent record of the City; oversee the records management program, including retention, disposition of official documents; certify tax roll, assessment roll, and documents; maintain all papers and records open to inspection during normal working hours; administer the oath of office and serve as notary public.

LICENSES:

Administer the issuance of licenses for intoxicating liquor/fermented malt beverages; operator/bartender; picnic/gathering; direct seller’s; cigarette; electricians; milk dealers; and dogs and cats in accordance with applicable Wisconsin Statutes and city ordinance regulations.

ELECTIONS:

Perform the duties required by Wisconsin State Statute related to elections including overseeing the election process; record updated voter registration information; inform the public of all presidential, state and local elections along with referendum voting; arrange for polling places and recruit, train, and supervise poll workers; provide for absentee ballots and supplies required for the conduct of elections; test the Optic machines; deliver the election results to the County Clerk; and prepare official Board of Canvas Statements relating to local election results.

TAX COLLECTION

The Clerk/Treasurer’s office provides information to the County Treasurer for the preparation of the annual tax bills.  We mail all tax bills for the City of Fort Atkinson on or before December 15th and then collect full and first-half payments until January 31.  After January 31st, the records are turned over to the Jefferson County Treasurer and their office collects the second-half payments that are due by July 31st.
